Anti-Aging Treatment* for the Scalp × Human Stem Cell Culture

* Skincare by age

It is said that these days half of men in their 30s are concerned about thinning hair.
Women also tend to lose volume at the top of their hair as they age and switch to short hairstyles.

This column describes our anti-aging scalp treatment using human stem cell culture for people who want to get a healthy scalp and resilient, lustrous, beautiful hair.

What are the reasons for hair loss and thinning hair?

Let’s start by looking at the mechanism of thinning hair.

The hair growth cycle has three phases: growth, regressing, and resting.
In a normal hair cycle with a growth phase of about four years, the balance between growth and shedding is maintained, but for those with thinning hair caused by the levels of male hormones, the growth phase is shortened to about one year.
By entering the regressing phase earlier than in the normal cycle, hair shafts do not grow thick and hard, resulting in the growth of thinner and softer hair during the hair cycle, causing the cycle to progress faster. This is the reason for shedding and gradual reduction in the thickness of hair.

As described so far, disturbed hair cycle is one of the causes of thinning hair.
The next section describes the causes of disturbed hair cycle.

What happens when scalp conditions deteriorate?

Deterioration of scalp conditions is one of the causes of disturbed hair cycle.
Let’s look at scalp photos.

Healthy scalps are bluish-white. In contrast, pores tend to clog when there is oxidized sebum and other buildup on the scalp. In addition, poor blood circulation prevents the distribution of nutrients, leading to a shortage of ingredients required for hair growth.

Example photos of scalp treatment

  • Dirty scalp

Time has passed since sebum was released, and dried dirt is clogging the pores. This condition is often seen near the neck and at the back of the head. It causes aging of the scalp, hair loss, dandruff, itching, and loss of volume.

  • Yellow scalp

When a certain time passes after sebum is produced, it oxidizes and turns yellow. Excessively produced sebum has clogged the pores, preventing the pores from breathing. Often occurring during summer and the muggy rainy season, this condition is mainly seen around the face line and on the top of the head. It causes odor, thinning hair, thin hair, and loss of volume.

  • Red scalp

Poor blood circulation is causing the capillaries to rise to the surface, resulting in red skin.
This condition is often experienced by people with poor circulation in the neck and shoulders, eye fatigue, and/or cold hands and feet. By warming up the scalp and releasing the tension, scalp conditions are improved and eye fatigue is relieved, bringing comfort and clarity.

  • Bluish-white scalp

    Healthy scalp

Clear, hydrated, dewy skin. The scalp is supple, and the hair fits the pores. Having lustrous and voluminous hair, people with bluish-white scalp hardly lose hair. Also, getting this scalp condition can lead to your facial skin being lifted up.

Deterioration of scalp conditions weakens hair follicles, which are responsible for hair growth. Most people with thinning hair have a disrupted hair cycle, and when these hair follicles do not act normally, hair falls out before it grows fully. Maintaining healthy hair follicles is critical for tackling thinning hair.

As described up to here, maintaining healthy scalp conditions is critical for tackling thinning hair.
And this is where human stem cell culture comes into play.
Human stem cell culture is an ingredient that creates healthy scalp conditions and works on disturbed hair cycle.

Basically, what are stem cells?

Before explaining what human stem cell culture is, we must start with stem cells.

Each cell of our body has a short life span and they are constantly being replaced.
Stem cells are a special type of cells with the ability to regenerate new cells and maintain cell turnover.
Stem cells can change into different cells. This ability is called differentiation. In addition, stem cells have the ability of self-renewal. More specifically, stem cells can differentiate into cells of other tissues and they can self-renew by dividing.

What is human stem cell culture?

We can now move onto the main topic, human stem cell culture.

Derived from human cells, human stem cells are less likely to cause allergies and are widely used in the field of beauty treatments. Compared to relatively inexpensive stem cells that are derived from plants and animals, human-derived stem cells are more suitable for anti-aging treatments* due to their higher beauty benefits, such as increased skin turnover and metabolism.

As with other skin areas, the scalp continuously goes through the turnover process where old cells peel off and are replaced with new cells. The turnover cycle repeats at regular intervals when the scalp is healthy but this regularity is disturbed by a variety of reasons including UV rays, aging, and stress. When the turnover cycle is disturbed, the skin barrier functions are reduced and scalp conditions deteriorate.

Human stem cell culture is a culture medium containing a large amount of proteins and other active ingredients secreted during the cultivation of human stem cells.
This medium does not contain human stem cells themselves. Being a culture medium, it can be used safely as an ingredient for beauty treatments. As human stem cell culture is rich in protein, which is great for scalp conditions, it is highly effective in leading to scalp conditions suitable for a healthy hair cycle.

Human stem cell culture assists scalp turnover and works on disturbed hair cycle. Focusing on the functions of the hair follicle stem cells and hair follicles, it leads to scalp conditions particularly suitable for enhancing hair growth and alleviating hair loss.

What are the unique features of your human stem cell culture?

Roller bottle culture
Common cell cultivation using a flask

1. No animal-derived serum
2. No antibiotics
3. No hormonal agents
4. Leads to healthy scalp conditions with biomimetic stimulation
5. Manufactured under standards based on the guidelines of MFDS, successively tested for 9 cosmetic safety items

1. Human skin patch test 2. Single oral dose toxicity test 3. Single dose transdermal toxicity test 4. Repeated transdermal toxicity test 5. Ocular irritation test 6. Skin sensitization test 7. Genotoxicity test 8. Phototoxicity test 9. Photosensitization test

* These tests do not rule out the possibility that skin irritation may occur for certain individuals.

1.Special Culture Method

Roller bottles are used when culturing human stem cells for the production of our culture media, a method that is more difficult than other culture methods. Due to the stimulation caused by rolling bottles, the secretion of exosomes and cytokines is about 10 times more than that of cultivation using common vessels such as flasks.

* Exosomes

An important substance for the scalp contained in human stem cell culture. Containing many beneficial ingredients for improving scalp conditions, exosomes condition the scalp by focusing on weakened hair follicle stem cells.

2.Safety

It is effective to use stem cells extracted from subcutaneous fat when working on cells that serve as the foundation of hair. Also, the younger the donors are, the more effective the stem cells are. The human stem cell culture we use is made exclusively from stem cells obtained from female donors in their 20s. We ask not only our donors but their parents and grandparents to undergo genetic testing. In addition, we constantly check to make sure that no cell has turned into a cancer cell or other harmful cells during the manufacturing process.

Our human stem cell culture is manufactured under strict quality control based on high standards of safety, stability, and concentration.
